Code of Conduct
Last updated · 9 June 2026Effective from · 4 June 2026
Eatropolis is a public food festival hosted on Auckland's waterfront. We expect every guest, chef, partner, volunteer, and staff member to help keep it warm, safe, and welcoming. This code of conduct applies to anyone interacting with the event on site, online, or in the run-up.
Our community
We celebrate Auckland's food culture in all its breadth — many languages, many origins, many ways of eating. We expect every person to be treated with respect, regardless of ethnicity, faith, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or body size.
Expected behaviour
- Be kind. Talk to chefs, volunteers, and other guests the way you'd want to be talked to.
- Be patient. Queues happen at festivals. The kitchen team is moving as fast as they can.
- Respect the venue. SHED-10 is a heritage building. Treat it well.
- Drink responsibly. Alcohol is available; intoxication is not a defence for poor behaviour.
- Follow staff instructions. Especially around capacity, fire exits, and food safety.
Unacceptable behaviour
The following are grounds for being asked to leave the event, without refund and without notice:
- harassment, intimidation, or threats of any kind;
- discriminatory language or behaviour;
- physical or sexual violence, including unwanted touching;
- abuse directed at chefs, staff, or volunteers;
- damaging property or interfering with food preparation;
- knowingly endangering yourself or others.
Where required, the organiser will involve the venue's security team or New Zealand Police.
Reporting an incident
If something happens to you, or you witness it happening to someone else, please tell us:
- On the day — speak with any staff member in a high-visibility jacket, or visit the information desk. Reports are taken seriously and confidentially.
- After the event — email info@eatropolis.co.nz with as much detail as you're comfortable sharing.
You do not have to be the person affected to make a report.
How reports are handled
We treat every report with care. We will:
- acknowledge your report within two New Zealand business days;
- review the report with the smallest reasonable group of people;
- talk with you, where appropriate, about what outcome you'd like;
- take action — which may include a private conversation, removal from the event, a ban from future events, or referral to the police.
We will tell you the outcome unless doing so would compromise the privacy or safety of another person.
No retaliation
We do not tolerate retaliation against anyone who has made a report in good faith or who has cooperated with an investigation.
